Barter is a design project combining visual mapping and literary storytelling in order the create a game of puzzle with the intention of helping to start a better conversation between the “natives” and the “newcomers” of Karaköy, Istanbul; using the native’s perspective of neighbourhood to build up a tourist guide for the curious.

Conclusion

At the end of this creative project, a functional game box that serves as a puzzle of Karaköy’s memory and a booklet composed of its local’s stories on their daily routines and thoughts on the district’s culture is created. Through these components, the audience is able to both partake in the interactive experience of rebuilding Karaköy in an interpersonal way, and gain a new understanding of the history they are learning of.
